2010 Jetstar Interview Process

JETSTAR INTERVIEWS FOR CABIN CREW

FEB 2010

By Flightdeck Consulting

Jetstar has ramped up its interviewing this month with expectations of expansion within the industry over the next few months. Interviews are expected to continue through to the end of the year. They have actively been interviewing for the last month with intentions of filling positions for full time Cabin Crew in their Darwin basing.

The interview process is quite straightforward and transparent and we have up to date information to help you through the process.

The day is scheduled as follows:

1.Meet and Greet.

There will be approximately 30 candidates, you will be introduced to the facilitators for the day and given a brief of the days process.

2. One on One Interview.

Each candidate is then taken for a one on one interview that will last about 20 mins. Although the tone of the interview is very relaxed don’t let down your guard, stay professional and courteous.

The interview is behavioural based with questions such as-

“Tell us about yourself”

“Why do you want to work for us”?

“What do you have to offer us?”

“The basing is in Darwin, do you have a problem with this?”

3. Group Exercise.

Candidates are now split into groups, usually of around 8 to 10 people. Each group will be given two to three activities to complete within a time frame. This can range from a set of shaped cards that need to be put together to make a square. A deck of cards that you must put in matching pairs, some of them will be within other groups and you will need to liase with them.

Then you can be given a scenario of an incident in flight and how as a group you would manage the situation. An example is a passenger smoking in the toilet.

Although it is a group exercise you will be assessed as an individual within that group.

4. Mathematics and Geography Test.

You are then required to complete a skills and maths test. The maths test is basic school level mathematics in relating to the position of cabin crew, such as the purchasing of onboard products, giving the correct change etc.

The geography test relates mainly to the ports that Jetstar service. An example would be where is Osaka, what is its ICAO designator etc.

5. Call Back.

Lunch follows the Maths and Geography. During lunch scores and assessments are tallied and applicants successful thus far will be asked to remain whilst the others are advised that they have been unsuccessful and thanked for their interest in Jetstar.

6. Briefing.

If you receive a call back you will be briefed by the team as to role and position of a cabin crewmember of Jetstar. Topics discussed include the type of flying you can expect, fatigue issues, remuneration, basing and transfer options.

Candidates are now encouraged to ask questions.

7. One on One interview.

The final step for the day is a one on one interview with a different facilitator. The questions asked will be behavioural in concept. You will be asked to give specific examples to the questions asked.

8. Reference Check, Medical and ASIC.

Should you be successful you will be contacted by phone to confirm your references and given details regarding the company medical. Permission will be requested for the company to conduct a security check to allow the issue of an ASIC card.
