The process has changed slightly since the previous gouge. There were 13 applicants interviewing the day I was there, along with twelve additional applicants the following day. All 25 of us were competing for 8 openings, so you have a 1 in 3 chance of being hired. They tell you that they will hire as many as everyone to as few as no one in a particular group, but this does not coincide with my experience or the experience of fellow coworkers from previous interview groups. They seem to only consider you for the next class and once it's filled, everyone else is rejected.
One difference from the previous gouge is in the group interview. After the question & answer session, we were each given a card with a unique question on it. The interviewers selected us at random to first explain why we wanted to work there, and then to answer the question on our card. Here are some examples of the questions that were asked: Describe the perfect pilot Tell me about a time when you... diverted prevented a catastrophe were rushed to get a flight out on time
The next difference was in the individual interviews. There was no HR interview, just the two on one pilot interview. Here are some examples of the questions that were asked:
Tell me about a time when you\'ve… flown with a difficult captain helped co-worker broke an SOP/FAR to help the company helped foster a positive relationship Have you ever been on any committees at work? How do you feel about merit based promotion? What is the greatest compliment you’ve ever received? The people that were hired from our group received an e-mail invitation to take the drug test within two days after the interview. Everyone received their yea or nay response within six days. Other coworkers that interviewed a month earlier did not receive word until up to eleven days after their interview.
All but myself and one other pilot were currently 121 captains with lots of total time. I was the only one without any prior 121 PIC time, which I'm assuming is at least part of the reason for my rejection.
I would recommend that you go out of your way to ride on a Virgin flight prior to your interview for two reasons. They will ask you if you have, and it helps to get an idea of what the company is all about. I'm very upset that it did not work out for me because it looks like a great place to work and they have a tremendous amount of potential. Best of luck to all in these extremely difficult times.
